Steven Polchinski
Hello! My name is Steven Polchinski (he/him) and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT157437) and registered psychological associate (RPA94028883). My approach to therapy is relational, client-centered, and integrative, drawing from a variety of evidence-based treatment modalities, also informed by psychodynamic and depth psychology. I respect and value the unique experiences and needs of each individual, and I am committed to fostering a safe and accepting space in therapy.
I have several years of clinical experience with the Santa Barbara Unified School District, the Community Counseling and Education Center, and currently the non-profit OpenMinds, where I have worked with children, adolescents, and young adults to treat a range of mental and behavioral health issues. I also work as a yoga teacher at CorePower Yoga, and I utilize mindfulness practices, somatic therapy, and play therapy in my work.
Education and Training
I earned a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in Carpinteria, CA and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of California, Berkeley. I am currently a 3rd year Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) student at Pacifica.
I have received training in a variety of therapeutic approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which offer flexible, mindfulness-based applications to treatment.
